AMC Renews Thriller Series ‘Dark Winds’ For A Third Season

Created by Graham Roland (Mile 22, Fringe), the first season of Dark Winds debuted on AMC in June 2022. The series was renewed for second season, which premiered in July 2023. According to Deadline, AMC has just announced the renewal of Dark Winds for a third season.

As Deadline notes, the President of Entertainment and AMC Studios Dan McDermott spoke about Dark Winds. He stated, “We started this journey with very high hopes for this series, given the remarkable source material and extraordinary creative team behind it, and it has delivered on every level.”

McDermott continued, “From the beloved novels, to an incredibly collaborative producing team that includes Robert Redford, George R. R. Martin, showrunner John Wirth and star Zahn McClarnon, to the entire cast and crew, there is so much storytelling yet to come in this universe. Thanks to the fans for embracing this series and the critics for celebrating and shining a light on it.”

The series Dark Winds is based on the book series titled Leaphorn & Chee created by Tony Hillerman (The Blessing Way, People of Darkness). The television series revolves around two Navajo law enforcement officers named Joe Leaphorn, played by Zahn McClarnon (Longmire, Reservation Dogs), and Jim Chee, played by Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Blood Quantum). The series, set in the 1970s, follows Leaphorn and Chee as they attempt to solve various crimes.

Other stars of the series include Jessica Matten (Tribal, Frontier) as Bernadette Manuelito, Deanna Taushi Allison (Edge of America, Accused) as Emma Leaphorn, Elva Guerra (Reservation Dogs, You and Me This Summer) as Sally Growing Thunder, and more.

The first season, according to Deadline, averaged 1.7 million viewers in Live Plus 3 ratings. Live Plus 3 ratings take into account those who viewed each week’s episode when it aired as well as those who watched it within the following three days after it aired.

Fans of Dark Winds can rejoice at the news that season three will be coming.
