AMC Renews ‘Better Call Saul’ for Third Season

Everyone else is renewing TV series early, so AMC is getting in on the action. Deadline reports that the network has renewed Better Call Saul for a third season.

The Breaking Bad prequel spinoff is currently on its second season and only 5 episodes into the 10 episode season. Better Call Saul follows the life of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) six years before he met Walter White (Bryan Cranston). Before he was Saul, the ace attorney, he was Jimmy McGill, just an underdog lawyer trying to make a name for himself by representing low-income clients. McGill works closely with Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), whose special skill of being a “fixer” comes in handy in tricky situations.

The renewal does not come as a huge surprise considering the series premiere set a new cable ratings record and has only continued to grow in ratings and viewership. The season 2 premiere showed a 22% increase in viewership over the series premiere. The series’ success extends beyond ratings and viewership. Better Call Saul earned 7 Emmy nominations last year for its debut season.

According to TV Guide, AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement, “What Vince, Peter, Bob and the entire team have accomplished with Better Call Saul is truly rare and remarkable. They have taken one of the most iconic, immersive and fan-obsessive (in the best possible way) shows in television history and created a prequel that stands on its own. Watching Jimmy McGill’s thoughtful, melodic and morally flexible transformation into Saul Goodman is entertaining and delighting millions of fans, whether their starting point was Breaking Bad or not. This series has its own feel, pace and sensibility and we can’t wait to see what this incredibly talented group comes up with next in season three.”

Vince Giligan and Peter Gould, the series creators, will return as executive producers and co-showrunners.

Catch Better Call Saul on Mondays on AMC.
