The Amazon Prime Video original series The Boys will start its filming and production process in Toronto next week for its third installment, via Screen Rant. The dark superhero dramedy series announced its third season renewal before the premiere of its second season at New York Comic-Con Panel. The series’ showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural) revealed that he and the remaining members of the cast and crew have been conducting a two-week quarantine in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines. Permitting there are no production delays to COVID-19, season three’s production is anticipated to be concluded by end of spring 2021.
Kripke’s reveal of the third season’s production coincided with an announcement for a live interview on February 12. The Boys premiered on the Amazon streaming service in summer 2019 with an eight-episode first season and released its eight-episode second season with a weekly release in fall 2020. The series centers on a group of vigilantes that combat the corrupt collection of superheroes that control the world as well as their controlling corporation, Vought. The Amazon original’s cast includes the likes of Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Erin Moriarty (True Detective), Antony Starr (Banshee), Karl Urban (Dredd), Jessie T. Usher (Shaft), Nathan Mitchell (Arrow), Dominique McElligott (Moon), Tomer Capon (Fauda), Aya Cash (You’re the Worst), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Laz Alonso (Avatar), and Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad).
The second season saw the arrival of Cash in the main cast in addition to the introduction of Shawn Ashmore (The Following) as Lamplighter. For the third season, Claudia Doumit (Timeless) has been promoted from recurring to the main cast. Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) has also been announced to join another Kripke project as the original Vought superhero in Soldier Boy.
Despite the announcement of its production, it is still unknown when the third season of The Boys will be released on the Amazon streaming service.
