Amazon’s ‘Fallout’ Elects Walton Goggins As Lead in Video Game’s TV Adaptation

Amazon Prime Video announced Justified alum Walton Goggins will play the lead in their upcoming TV series adaptation of best-selling video game franchise, Fallout, via Deadline. News of the series was announced last year with Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan (Person of Interest) and Lisa Joy (Reminiscence) set to produce.

Debuting in 1997, Fallout began as a role-playing game set in 2077 America following a nuclear war. With its retro-futuristic styling, the video game explored the survival of those who remained living in isolated bunkers across a radiation-ravaged land. In 2004, the series transitioned from the traditional RPG format to include more action. Now under the helm of Bethesda Game Studios/Softworks, Fallout has spawned four proper sequels and countless spinoffs, including 2018’s Fallout 76.

According to Deadline, not much is known about Goggins’ character, but he will portray what is known as Ghoul. In the Fallout world, Ghouls are humans who, after long exposure to radiation during the Great War, have developed certain mutations. Goggins is currently appearing in HBO’s second season of The Righteous Gemstones, which airs its final episode on February 27. The comedy series has been renewed for a third season. Soon, he will appear in the Apple TV+ limited series, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, alongside Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel’s Secret Invasion, Shaft) and Dominique Fishback (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Project Power).

Deadline reports Geneva Roberston-Dworet and Graham Wagner will serve as showrunners. Robertson-Dworet’s previous work includes writing on 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot and Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Wagner is known for producing shows like Silicon Valley and Baskets.

Nolan and Joy will executive produce the series through their Kilter Films production company as part of their overall deal with Amazon Studios. The duo is joined by executive producers Athena Wickham (Reminiscence, Revolution), Todd Howard (Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), and Bethesda/Softworks Director of Publishing Operations, James Altman (Super Troopers 2).

Amazon’s Fallout is set to begin production in 2022.
