Amazon Reveals Premiere Date for Season 2 of ‘The Boys’

Amazon’s superhero satire series has officially been revealed to return this fall. In a special livestream, guest star in season 2, Patton Oswalt (Agents of SHIELD), announced that the first three episodes of season 2 will be released on this September 4th, a Friday, Deadline reported.

In addition to the premiere, Oswalt confirmed that five additional episodes will be released every week afterwards, leading up to the eighth and final episode of season 2 on October 9th. In a statement obtained by Deadline, creator and executive producer Eric Kripke (Supernatural) made a joking promise that “the Surgeon General has insisted we air the first three episodes on September 4, then air the remaining five episodes weekly after that. We wanted to give you time to freak out, digest, discuss, come down from the high, before we give you another dose. We only have your well-being in mind. Hope you love the season as much as we do.”

The Boys flips the usual tropes of the superhero genre on its head, with the major superheroes of its world being power-hungry and self-centered, leading to a group of vigilantes rising up to put them in check. The superheroes are easily identifiable parodies of famous characters, such as Antony Starr (Banshee)’s Homelander, who uses his flight and heat vision to carry out horrible crimes, despite acting much like Superman on the surface. The vigilantes go by the name The Boys, and are led by former CIA agent Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban (Dredd), who accuses Homelander of being involved in the disappearance of his wife.

The ensemble cast of superheroes is rounded out by Erin Moriarty (True Detective) as Starlight, Dominique McElliot (Moon) as Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher (Level Up) as A-Train, Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) as the Deep, and Nathan Mitchell (Scorched Earth) as Black Noir. The rest of The Boys includes Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games) as Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso (Avatar) as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capon (Hostages) as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) as the Female.

The entire eight-episode first season of The Boys is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The trailer for the first season is available to watch on YouTube.
