Amazon Renews ‘Transparent’ For Season Three

Amazon’s Transparent is getting a third season before the second season is even released.

Season 2 of Transparent is currently starting production and Amazon has greenlit a third season of the half hour comedy-drama. Along with the renewal, Amazon has signed an a deal with series creator Jill Soloway. Season 3 of Transparent will arrive on Amazon in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor as the patriarch of the Pfefferman family who comes out as transgender and begins to live life as Maura, after spending it as Mort. When Maura reintroduces herself to the family, everyone’s secrets begin to come out. The lives and secrets of the family are explored in the show as the characters decide who they do and don’t want to become.

Other than Maura, the show includes Maura’s ex-wife Shelly (played by Judith Light) and their adult children. There’s meandering Ali (played by Gaby Hoffmann), record producer Josh (played by Jay Duplass), and sexually conflicted Sarah (played by Amy Landecker).

The fast renewal for season 3 isn’t unusual since Amazon gave it a second season just two weeks after its release last fall. Transparent has been critically praised winning two Golden Globes after its first season. Amazon is giving the series an Emmy campaign that includes billboards in Los Angeles, according to Deadline

As a part of the overall deal Soloway signed with Amazon to develop exclusive television projects for Amazon Prime, she will continue her role as Transparent executive producer and showrunner. Andrea Sperling, currently co-executive producer for the show, is being elevated to executive producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent,” said Amazon Studios VP Roy Price in a statement. “The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family.”

Soloway added in a statement, “I am so thrilled that I get to share more of the Pfeffermans’ story with the world. We are all so in love with watching them change and grow. I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me and I can’t wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us.”

Hinting at future plots for the series, Soloway has recently said there will be something in the show about Caitlyn Jenner though it’s unclear if Jenner will actually appear on the show, according to VarietySeason 2 of Transparent will appear on Amazon later this fall.
