Amazon Releases Trailer for New Series ‘The Tick’

Season 1 of The Tick may not premiere on Amazon until August 25, but potential viewers have officially been given a first look into the new superhero series. Amazon Prime Video released the first trailer for the upcoming series on Wednesday.

Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Peter Szymon Serafinowicz stars as the titular character of The Tick. The series will follow an underground accountant with absolutely no super powers that lives in a world full of superheroes. The character is content with his normal life until he learns the truth about the city he calls home. When he discovers that the city is owned by a global super villain that is believed to be dead, he becomes a superhero himself to presumably save the city. Check out the full trailer below.

The two-minute trailer tells the story of an underdog that fans will inevitably love to root for. The trailer teases “an epic tale ripe with destiny, adventure, blood loss, and good against evil,” and the footage that is currently available to viewers does not seem to disappoint.

Amazon’s The Tick will also star Thanksgiving‘s Griffin Newman as Arthur Everest, The Following‘s Valorie Curry as Dot Everest, Lie to Me‘s Brendan Hines as Superian, Human Target‘s Jackie Earle Haley as The Terror, and Jane the Virgin‘s Yara Martinez as Ms. Lint. Ben Edlund created the series and will serve as an executive producer and writer throughout the first season. Edlund and the cast are set the discuss the upcoming show during a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.

The Tick was first introduced on the small screen in 1994 after originally being created by Edlund in 1986 as a mascot for New England Comics. The half-hour animated television series ran on Fox and has been syndicated by a variety of networks. The original The Tick series ran for three seasons and had a total of 36 episodes. According to SuperHeroHype.com, Amazon’s The Tick is a reboot of a past live-action series on Fox with the same name. While Fox’s live-action series only lasted nine episodes before its cancellation, the series has become a cult classic among many fans. Edlund is responsible for creating all three television adaptions of The Tick.

The pilot for The Tick was released on Amazon Prime Video in August 2016. The first twelve episodes of Season 1 will be available to watch on the streaming service beginning on August 25. According to Variety, Part 2 of the first season will be available to stream in early 2018.
