Amazon Releases First Look at ‘The Tick,’ Announces Premiere Date

Today Amazon Video released the first images for its upcoming reboot of the cult classic The Tick.

That was fast.

Just back in March Amazon announced they would be rebooting the series and Peter Serafinowicz would be starring as the blue crime-fighting arachnid. It seems like the reboot was just announced and already Amazon is expecting the series to premiere later this month.

The Tick first graced the small screen as an animated series in 1994 and ran for a total of 36 episodes spanning two seasons. Then in 2001, The Tick was rebooted as a live action series starring Patrick Warburton as the title character. Despite being later deemed a cult classic, the live action series only lasted for one season consisting of 9 episodes.

Variety reports that Ben Edlund, the creator of The Tick, said in a press release, “This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us. The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of The Tick and Arthur’s story in live-action, and I think we’re on to something!”

Edlund added, “Visually and thematically this new Tick lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami — and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism.”

Alongside Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion) will also star in the series.

The official synopsis released for the series explains the story will follow The Tick and his sidekick, Arthur, who face a global villain everyone thought to be dead but who now owns their city.

Along with the photos for the series, Amazon also announced that The Tick will premiere on Amazon Prime on August 19.
