Amazon Prime Set to Develop Two New ‘Bosch’ Spin-Off Series Centered on Jerry Edgar and Renee Ballard Characters

According to Deadline, Amazon Prime will be developing two new Bosch spin-off shows featuring the characters Jerry Edgar, played by Jamie Hector (The Wire, We Own This City), and Renee Ballard, respectively. Like their predecessor, both series will be inspired by the Bosch book series written by bestselling author Michael Connelly (The Lincoln Lawyer, Blood Work).

As reported by Deadline, the first show, the untitled Jerry Edgar project, will follow the titular Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerome “Jerry” Edgar. The logline for the upcoming series reads: “a police drama following Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past.” The untitled program will be executive produced by Connelly and Laurence Andries (Godfather of Harlem, How To Get Away with Murder).

The second project (which is also currently untitled) is centered around Detective Renee Ballard, a beloved character from the Bosch book series who has yet to appear in either Bosch or Bosch: Legacy. The logline for the highly-anticipated new show reads: “Detective Renee Ballard is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division. Beyond simply investigating unsolved crimes, Renee is dedicated to bringing credibility to the department and justice to the community. Having learned from retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch, Renee does things her way – solving cases in unconventional ways while navigating the politics of being a woman on the rise in the LAPD.” The series will be executive produced by Connelly, Michael Alaimo (Frank and Ava, Not for Nothin’), and Kendall Sherwood (Hawaii Five-0, Major Crimes.

Bosch was actually Amazon’s first original drama series, premiering almost ten years ago in 2014, and is also the streamer’s longest-running original series. So far, Amazon has yet to announce when fans can expect an announcement for the release dates of both untitled series.
