‘PAW Patrol’ Creators Discuss New Spinoff Series

Coming from The Hollywood Reporter, the creators of the beloved kid TV show, PAW Patrol, are now releasing a spinoff series titled Rubble & Crew. The original show is based off of a lineup of toys created by the Canadian based company Spin Master and distributed the series to the U.S. through Nickelodeon. The show’s creator, Keith Chapman (Bob the Builder, Mighty Express), and Spin Master’s Executive Vice President of Entertainment, Jen Dodge, showed their support and enthusiasm for expanding the preschool show.

The award-winning TV show has shown many the power of teamwork with 10-year-old boy Ryder along with dogs filling multiple roles as firemen, EMT, and officers. The premise of this show revolves around them solving problems around the area while learning specific skills and being taught good lessons. Since every show has a catchphrase, Ryder’s is “Whenever you’re in trouble, just yelp for help!”

Rubble & Crew would be this next big leap for Spin Master and this release comes on the cusp of PAW Patrol’s approaching 10-year anniversary this August. According to The Hollywood Reporter, This new series centers on Rubble, one of the dogs from the original show. He is an English bulldog who works with his puppies in construction. In its first episode, they are tasked with building a bike shop right before the town’s Bike Festival, but they have to compete with the show’s antagonist, Speed Meister, who’s rival construction company works to undermine Rubble for the top spot.

PAW Patrol is one of Spin Master’s longest running series and has over 167 episodes across nine seasons, while also having two related movies made in 2021 and in 2023. The series accumulated numerous awards over the years and made its place among the most memorable shows on Nick Jr. It is a no-brainer to expand the show’s world to provide even more ways to tell the story of Ryder and the individual members of PAW Patrol.

Keith Chapman comments on the show’s recent debut and the previous success of PAW Patrol, which accounting for audience in the 2-11 age demographic is “number one on Nick Jr., number one on Parmount+ and number one on Netflix globally…When we first started talking about it, Jen and I loved the nurturing aspect of it, the softness and the pups. The pups were key because they’re the most popular pet in the world…It’s like they’re going to see a big, massive rock star.”

Paramount’s President/CEO of International Markets and Global Consumer Products and Experiences, Pam Kaufman says the following: “It has been extraordinary to see the pure joy that Paw Patrol continues to bring to kids and families as we hit the ten-year mark of fans seeking out all the ways to interact with these characters…it’s clear just how meaningful the show’s message of friendship and community is.”

Jen Doge has this to say when speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in their exclusive interview: “Back in 2010 when we were first working on it and developing it (PAW Patrol), the toy aisle and content was very gendered. But Paw Patrol was unique in that it appealed so broadly, surprising everyone. We also always tried to make it as aspirational as possible, like you’re watching your older siblings’ show but in a really safe space…Then when you do something like a spinoff with Rubble… it’s fresh and it has a little bit of a unique voice. It’s trusting those creative experts and having the best and then also being really careful caretakers of the characters in the stories at the same time.”

Audiences old and new can watch Rubble & Crew on Nick Jr and Paramount Plus in the U.S. Down below is the first episode released publicly on YouTube.
