Allison Janney To Join ‘The Diplomat’

According to TVLine, Allison Janney (West Wing) will be joining the cast of The Diplomat on Netflix. The series is led by Keri Russell, where Janney will be playing the reoccurring role of Vice President Grace Penn. Janney will be officially joining for the second season of the show.

TVLine cited that the first season ended with Russell’s emissary Kate Wyler and David Gyasi’s foreign secretary Austin Dennison facing grave troubles due to the fact that they discovered the British aircraft carrier attack conspiracy. Sources have stated that once the second season begins to air, the crisis will still be unfolding in real time.

TVLine says that a source for The Diplomat said that “It will pick up right away,” and then carried on to expand on the fact that the series “has a really compressed timeline — something like three weeks pass in Season 1 — so it makes sense that Season 2 would start moments later.”

TVLine also stated that a mere 10 days after the drop of season one of the series, which occurred in mid-April, a second season was ordered by Netflix. This was an easy decision for the company, seeing as how the show was number one on the top 10 list, accumulating 57.48M views in the first weekend that it aired.

TVLine said that Netflix’s VP of Drama Series Jinny Howe said, “Fans around the world are loving every minute of The Diplomat’s gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri’s powerful performance, After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we can’t wait for them to see what the amazing visionary team of [series creator] Debora Cahn, [and fellow EPs] Janice Williams, Alex Graves and Keri have in store for Season 2.”

Season two is said to be released later this year, however, there is no official release date quite yet.
