HBO’s Emmy-winning drama Succession has cast Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies) in a recurring role for the show’s third season, according to Deadline. Skarsgård will appear as Lukas Matsson, character Deadline describes as a “successful, confrontational tech founder and CEO.”
Succession’s second season ended with a major attempt by Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong, The Trial of the Chicago 7) to overthrow his father’s reign of the family business. The third season is currently in production and will pick up as “a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war,” according to Deadline.
Skarsgård is the latest of several recurring cast members previously announced for the upcoming season, including Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball), Linda Emond (Lodge 49) and Jihae (Mars). How these cast members figure into the story has not yet been revealed.
Skarsgård is best known for his role as Eric Northman in HBO’s vampire series True Blood. He received Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice and SAG awards for his performance as Perry, opposite Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), in Big Little Lies. His film credits include Godzilla vs. Kong, Hold the Dark and Mute.
Jesse Armstrong (Downhill) is the creator, showrunner and executive producer of Succession. He is joined by executive producers Adam McKay (Vice), Frank Rich (Veep), Kevin Messick (Jack Reacher), Jane Tranter (The Night Of), Mark Mylod (Shameless), Tony Roche (Veep), Scott Ferguson (Only Lovers Left Alive), Jon Brown (Dead Pixels) and Will Ferrell (Dead to Me).
