Aidy Bryant, Randall Park and Keke Palmer Join the Voice Cast of ‘Big Mouth’ Spin-Off ‘Human Resources’ at Netflix

At Annecy Animation Film Festival on Monday, Netflix broke news about Big Mouth spin-off series Human Resources, including the series cast. Variety exclusively reported the news from the festival, sharing that Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live, Shrill), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat, WandaVision) and Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Scream Queens) would be joining the new series alongside Big Mouth alums Nick Kroll (The Kroll Show, The League), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live, Bridesmaids), David Thewlis (Wonder Woman, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Brandon Kyle Goodman (Feel the Beat, Plus One).

Rudolph, Thewlis, Goodman and Big Mouth co-creator and executive producer Kroll will be continuing in their roles from the flagship series set “in the supernatural home world of Big Mouth hormone monsters Maurice and Connie, voiced by Kroll and Rudolph” (Variety). Voicing Connie the Hormone monster in the coming-of-age comedy’ fourth season recently earned Rudolph her first Emmy win.

While Bryant and Palmer’s exact roles have yet-to-be-disclosed, it was revealed on Monday that Park will play Pete, a Logic Rock. “I’m very much a logic rock,” Park said of his new character “I felt like this part was written for me […] I’m very logical, organized, clean. Pete does everything by the book like me.” (Variety).

As the existence of Pete the Logic Rock implies, Human Resources’ world will consist of more than just hormone monsters. “In the far more adult world of the monsters, also inhabited by the Shame Wizards, Depression Kitties and a host of other species which guide humanity through the various stages of life from puberty to childbirth and into our autumn years,” Variety describes the spin-off “the creatures themselves will be the show’s main protagonists.”

Along with announcing the cast and speaking briefly to Kroll and Park about the series, Netflix revealed two brief clips at the Annecy Animation Film Festival on Monday. One clip was a peak into Big Mouth‘s upcoming season five finale, in which Kroll’s pre-teen protagonist will travel to Human Resources to lodge a complaint about the creatures which have plagued his awkward existence. Variety describes the other snippet from the spin-off as “an actual HR video for a corporate job, introducing the viewer to the world of Human Resources.”

Back when Human Resources was first announced in 2019, Netflix unveiled short animatic to coincide with the news. While Monday provided no timeline as to when fans can expect the series’ release, Kroll expressed his excitement for the new series when sharing the casting announcement on Instagram. “This. Show. Is. Bonkers.” Kroll teased, stirring excitement for both Human Resources and the upcoming fifth season of Big Mouth, via Instagram.
