Adult Swim’s ‘Rick and Morty’ has an Enormous 70-Episode Renewal

It took awhile but Rick and Morty is getting its fourth season and then some. Adult Swim has given the cartoon series a 70 episode renewal. This is being called a “longterm deal” that is having the creator’s of the show (Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon) create more than double of the first three seasons that the series has already produced.

This enormous pickup reflects how successful Rick and Morty is not only as a cartoon, but also a multi media sensation by being apart of: gaming, live streaming, retail, and fan experiences.. The season three finale is in Adult Swim’s history book by giving them the highest ratings in history. The show is also the number one comedy in all of television in 2017 with millennials. It has become the gold standard.

During the negotiations between season three and the announcement of the renewal Harmon had been giving updates on the show’s renewal. He said that things had, “gotten complicated this time around.” This might have been because of how many episodes were included in the renewal.

Rick and Morty is an adult animated sci-fi comedy. It focuses on a sociopathic scientist (whom is also a genius) and his timid grandson. They go on dangerous adventure all around the universe. The series first aired on December 2, 2013 and the newest season (the third season) ended on October 1, 2017.

Christina Miller, President Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, said when the finale for season three aired said, “Rick and Morty is truly what a modern day hit looks like across multiple screens and multiple touchpoints.”

To celebrate and hype up this massive deal, Adult Swim is bringing back the Rickmoble to start its country wide tour. It starts May 17th in Atlanta, GA and it will make more than 50 stops, including San Diego Comic-Con in July. Rickmoble is a pop-up shop which will be offering new exclusive and custom-designed show collectibles.
