Adult Swim Orders New Series ‘Primal’ from Genndy Tartakovsky

Cartoon Network’s after-dark program, Adult Swim, has announced plans to partner up with prolific animator Genndy Tartakovsky for an upcoming half-hour animated series — their second collaboration since the 2017 revival of Samurai Jack.

The cable channel has given a series order for Primal, which will air later this fall and follow a “caveman at the dawn of evolution and a dinosaur on the brink of extinction.” Both form a strong bond with each other as they attempt to survive a violent world together.

Tartakovsky is also known for directing the children’s animated film franchise Hotel Transylvania, although he initially got his start creating television works such as Cartoon Network’s Dexter’s Laboratory and the original Samurai Jack series.

He also directed the George Lucas produced Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series for Cartoon Network and is also known for co-creating Sym-Bionic Titan. Other credits include being a pivotal crew member on The Powerpuff Girls, and other notable series such as Tiny Toon Adventures and Batman: The Animated Series.

The news coincides with two other announcements made recently by the network — one being the live action comedy Three Busy Debras and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law spinoff Birdgirl, which will feature the voice of Paget Brewster as the titular character.

Three Busy Debras is described as an absurdist comedy, that takes place in Lemoncurd, Connecticut as the series  follows the “surreal day-to-day lives of three deranged housewives, all named Debra.” The series pilot was orginally ordered by Adult Swim a year ago, but just recently got greenlit to go into production later this year.
