Adam Ferrara, who plays Edie Falco’s love interest in the hit Showtime drama Nurse Jackie, will return for the show’s sixth season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Ferrara, a Rescue Me alum, was first introduced into the show as a reoccurring guest in season five. He played Officer Frank Verelli, Jackie’s new love interest.
In the upcoming sixth season, Ferrara’s character will learn that his deepening involvement with Jackie comes with its consequences, and he will begin to wonder if he is in over his head.
Ferrara’s credits include features “Definitely Maybe” and “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”, as well as hosting BBC’s Top Gear U.S. In addition, the actor/stand-up comedian is a two-time nominee for best male stand-up by the American Comedy Awards after starting his small-screen career on NBC’s Caroline in the City.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips comments on the season five finale, explaining “There needs to be consequences; you can’t just do it as a one-time thing and say to the audience, ‘Hey, come back and watch year six and she’s on the wagon again. I don’t think that’s fair to the dynamic of authentic story telling. Her struggles will be even deeper next year.”
Nurse Jackie was renewed for a sixth season in June and will return in April.
