According to Deadline, Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being Wallflower, Fury), who played Percy Jackson in the 2010 and 2013 Percy Jackson & the Olympians movies, praised the upcoming Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians television series in a note. In this note, he also praised Walker Scobell (The Adam Project, Secret Headquarters), who is playing Percy Jackson in the new series. The note was read aloud during a live episode of a podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz (Junketeers, Charlie Rose).
In the podcast, titled Happy Sad Confused, Horowitz speaks with various film and television stars. For his most recent episode, Horowitz was joined by Scobell as well as Leah Jeffries (Beast, Something from Tiffany’s), who plays Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri (Spin, Cheaper by the Dozen), who plays Grover Underwood.
As Deadline notes, Lerman’s note stated, “The show looks amazing. I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life. I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker. You were so brilliant in The Adam Project. Hope you like eating blue food the next few years because I think you have a hit show on your hands.”
In response to the note, as Deadline notes, Scobell exclaimed that hearing this “definitely does [feel good] a little bit.” After watching The Perks of Being a Wallflower where Lerman played main character Charlie, Scobell explained, “I really liked it. I thought it was so good I DM’d him.”
The premise of the upcoming Disney+ series is based on the franchise of the same name by Rick Riordan (The Sun and the Star, The Lost Hero). Riordan created the television series along with Jonathan E. Steinberg (Human Target, Black Sails).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to premiere on December 20th. This premiere, which will consist of two episodes, will be available on both Disney+ and Hulu. Then, each week a new episode will air only on Disney+.
