Dr. Megan Hunt, played by Abigail Spencer (Timeless), will make her return to Grey’s Anatomy in its upcoming 18th season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character was last seen in 2019’s season 15 while making her leave to Los Angeles with her partner, Nathan Riggs, played by Martin Henderson (Virgin River), and Farouk, a Syrian refugee she began looking after and presumably adopted.
Arguably the biggest storyline awarded to Spencer’s character was being presumed dead by her brother, Owen Hunt, played by Kevin McKidd (Made of Honor), and her former lover, Riggs. When she made her surprising return in season 15, Riggs was already serving as Meredith Grey’s, played by Ellen Pompeo (Station 19), latest love interest. In addition to Spencer’s upcoming return, Grey’s Anatomy will bring back other familiar faces – Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh (Private Practice), and Dr. Ellis Grey, played by Kate Burton (Scandal). Both characters played prominent roles in the series’ beginning seasons. Walsh went on to play Addison in the short-lived Grey’s Anatomy spinoff entitled Private Practice.
Grey’s Anatomy will welcome recurring characters in its 18th season as well, including Peter Gallagher (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) as Alan Hamilton. He will play the role of a doctor who knew Ellis in prior years and meets Meredith this upcoming season. The 18th season of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere on ABC on September 30.
