Janet Jackson Documentary Coming to Lifetime and A&E This January

Lifetime has released a teaser for a new documentary focusing on Janet Jackson, via Variety. The documentary, simply titled Janet, is set to be a two-night premiere on both Lifetime and A&E in January 2022 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her debut album, Janet Jackson.

The documentary was first announced in March by Variety. Janet promises to give viewers unprecedented access to the singer’s life with an unfiltered, intimate, and honest look at Jackson’s iconic music career. The documentary is said to be five years in the making.

With her hit single, “Control”, as the soundtrack, the teaser shows backstage footage and home videos of her famous family. The teaser also promises unseen personal footage of the singer with Jackson saying that her story will be told entirely by her. “This is a story by me, not through someone else’s eyes,” she said.

Fellow industry artists such as Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey, and Paula Abdul appeared in the teaser as they talk about their relationship with Jackson. Members of the Jackson family, including Tito and Randy, will be in the documentary as well. The documentary will touch on the loss of her brother, Michael Jackson, and her late father, Joseph, who passed away in 2018.

Janet will touch on the biggest moments in Janet Jackson’s career, including a detailed account of her controversial 2004 Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake.

Janet and Randy Jackson are the executive producers of the documentary and Ben Hirsch (Idris Elba: No Limits) will direct.
