In an episode entitled “A Cold Mom, a Brother Daddy, and a Prison Baby,” the Murphy Brown star will play Barb, the mother of Jay R. Ferguson’s (Briarpatch, Mad Men) Ben, according to Deadline. Barb is described as being a bit of a snob, despite being a Lansford native. This makes her relationship with her son a bit frigid. In addition to their cold disposition, she isn’t too fond of Ben’s relationship with Sara Gilbert’s (The Talk, The Big Bang Theory) Darlene or the Conner clan in general. According to Deadline, the episode will premiere Thurs., January 13. In its third season, The Conners originally debuted in 2018 as a Roseanne reboot. Roseanne premiered in 1988 and starred actress and comedienne Roseanne Barr (She-Devil, Roseanne’s Nuts) as the matriarch of a working-class Midwestern family. The original series ran for 10 seasons. Following the firing of Barr, the reboot was reformed as a sitcom detailing the lives of the other Conner family members. The series stars original cast members John Goodman (Captive State, Monsters Inc.), Lecy Goranson (How to Make An American Quilt, Boys Don’t Cry), Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird, Getting On), Michael Fishman (Little Bigfoot 2: The Journey Home, Undrafted) and Gilbert. New cast members include Ferguson, Emma Kenney (Shameless, Robert the Bruce), Ames McNamara (Made by Maddie, Intensive Care), Jayden Rey, and Maya Lynne Robinson (Dead Women Walking, Heaven is Now).

According to Deadline, Bergen recently starred in the HBO Max original film Let Them All Talk with Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada, The Prom) and Diane Keaton (The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give). In 2018, she returned to CBS for a Murphy Brown revival which she executive produced. The reboot ran for one season. The original series ran for 10 seasons and coveted Bergen five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes for her role as the brash and independent newsmagazine reporter.
