ABC Will Renew ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ for its Sixth Season

ABC has decided to renew Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for its sixth season. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was actually Marvel Television’s first live action drama series before they made a huge expansion into the cable and streaming world. This season however will be be shorter than the others. While the first five seasons were twenty-two episodes each, this new season will only be thirteen.

Last year, both showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen had negotiated with ABC to secure fifth season by reducing the licensing fee. Even though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D does not have a large live television ratings, it does have a strong DVR ratings and an even better international seller for ABC Studios. The series is also used as a marketing platform for Marvel.

The show stars: Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson), Iain De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Jemma Simmons), Henry Simmons (Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie), and Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez).

Marvel Television has noticed some of their shows not get renewed for another season. They have seen Agent Carter canceled at ABC after two seasons and Inhumans after only one season. However, they do still have their six Netflix series: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders. As well as, Hulu’s The Runaways, Freeform’s Cloak, and Dagger also FX’s Legion and FOX’s The Gifted.
