Aaron Pierre And Kyle Chandler Confirmed As Leads In HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ DC Series

HBO Max has announced an exciting new addition to its DC Universe lineup with Lanterns, a gritty intergalactic cop drama that brings fan-favorite Green Lanterns to the small screen as mentioned in their press release. The series centers around new recruit John Stewart played by Arron Pierre (Brother, Old, Foe) and legendary Lantern Hal Jordan, confirmed to be played by Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Super Eight, Friday Night Lights), two of the most iconic members of the Green Lantern Corps. Together, they are tasked with investigating a murder in the American heartland, unraveling a dark and complex mystery that brings cosmic intrigue to Earth.

As mentioned in the press release, Lanterns promises to offer a fresh take on the Green Lantern mythos by blending superhero action with detective noir. Fans can expect a deeper exploration of the characters, especially as John Stewart steps into the spotlight as a central figure alongside the veteran Hal Jordan. The series is co-written by industry heavyweights Chris Mundy (Low Winter Sun, Criminal Minds) , Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftover, Lost), and Tom King (Supergirl: Women Of Tomorrow, Batman: Killing Time). The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, known for his work on Black Mirror and Snowpiercer. The team behind Lanterns aims to create a unique experience that appeals not only to die-hard DC fans but also to viewers who enjoy suspenseful, character-driven dramas.

As mentioned in the press release, Pierre is currently starring in Rebel Ridge, a Netflix hit directed by Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Rain, Green Room, Murder Party) that held the #1 spot worldwide for three weeks. In December, he will take on the iconic role of Mufasa in Disney’s highly anticipated The Lion King prequel, directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, Mufasa: The Lion King, Aftersun).

With a powerhouse creative team and talents like Pierre and Chandler attached, Lanterns is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated shows in HBO Max’s 2024 lineup. The series is produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, bringing the rich legacy of the Green Lantern comic to life for a new generation. Fans can look forward to a thrilling mix of action, mystery, and cosmic adventure.
