A ‘Monk’ reunion movie is set to hit Peacock this Winter

Get ready, Monk fans!  Twelve years after the show wrapped, we have a release date for the new Peacock movie, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie. TV Line says the 90-minute movie will debut on Dec. 8, 2023. It will follow Monk as he investigates his last and final case involving his stepdaughter, Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.

Tony Shalhoub, who plays Monk (Wings, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), will return with original cast members like Traylor Howard (Two Guys and A Girl, Boston Common), who plays Monk’s assistant, Natalie Teeger, Ted Levine (Big Sky, The Bridge), who portrays Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, and Jason Grey-Stanford (Flags of our Fathers, Bones), who plays Lieutenant Randy Disher.

There will also be some fresh, new faces in the mix. Jason Purefoy (Pennyworth, Rome) will play Rick Eden, and Caitlin McGee (Home Economics, Mythic Quest) will play Molly Evans.

For those who need a refresher on the show before its big movie debut, the series follows Adrian Monk, a well-known detective for the San Francisco Police Department.

After the passing of his wife, he developed OCD or obsessive-compulsive disorder, which has him fear germs and contamination. This disorder, unfortunately, interfered with his career, and he was let go. Yet, he continues to solve crimes with his former boss and assistant.

“It’s been 12 years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk,” said the creator, writer and executive producer Andy Breckman, EP David Hoberman and director/EP Randy Zisk in a statement via TV Line, “The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world. We’re so delighted to have made a movie version of Monk, and we are thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back. But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy. Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”
