According to The Hollywood Reporter, the newest season of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver premiered on Sunday night on HBO ,but to the surprise of many, it did not air on YouTube the following morning. With the 11th season of the series starting, HBO has decided to hold back the episodes from YouTube for a few days after they premiere on the network.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, host John Oliver (Community, The Daily Show) took to social media and posted on X about the change. He said, “I know I usually share a link to our main story here on Mondays, but HBO has decided they’re going to wait until Thursday to post them to YouTube from now on. I hope they change their mind, but until then, you can see our piece about the Supreme Court on HBO, on Max, and on YouTube in a few days.”
An HBO spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter, “When Last Week Tonight With John Oliver premiered on HBO, the convenience of watching on Max did not exist, so YouTube allowed flexible viewing for the main story as well as promotional exposure. We are now delaying that availability and hope those fans choose to watch the entire show on Max.”
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver follows the current events in the United States as well as around the globe. Host Oliver delivers news from a hilarious and expert perspective about pressing matters from political, social, and cultural issues. The talk show segments report topics not only to entertain but also to inform viewers of weekly events.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series’ YouTube channel currently has nine million subscribers. Usually, the newest episode of the series premieres on the channel the day after it has aired on the network. As of now, the newest video on the channel is the trailer for the 11th season, which was posted weeks ago.
New episodes of the 11th season will air every Sunday at 11 p.m. Eastern time on HBO. All current episodes of the talk show are available to stream on Max.
