According to Screen Rant, the YouTube channel for The Walking Dead has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming show The Walking Dead: Dead City, a spinoff from the eleven-season hit TV series The Walking Dead that ended a week ago. The trailer features its two lead characters: Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Rampage), and Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan (The Boy, Mile 22).
The show, previously titled Isle of the Dead, will continue where The Walking Dead ended, following Maggie and Negan in New York City along with new characters Pearlie Armstrong played by Gaius Charles (Salt, The Messenger), Amaia played by Karina Ortiz (The Long Road Home, Orange Is The New Black), and “The Croat” by Zeljko Ivanek (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Seven Psychopaths). While the series has been vague about the plot of the show, it has promised to explore the difficult relationship between the protagonists, given their painful history. The series finale of TWD showed Negan’s apology to Maggie over the death of her husband, Glenn, to which she does not forgive him. The two part ways, offering no details about how they will partner up for the spinoff.
Although the trailer doesn’t reveal any more information about the show, it includes several key moments that give fans a hint of what is to be expected of the post-apocalyptic city never seen before. The pair will meet a new group of survivors who are using New York City as a playground. There’s a scene of someone fighting with a Walker in a wrestling ring and a sign that reads “Dawn Lincoln Center come kill with us.” The promotional video also depicts a new kind of Walker, a variant that could pose a threat to the survivors. Another possible danger could be human, with the trailer showing Maggie and Negan preparing to ambush a large man in a helmet who is named The Croat.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is expected to premiere in April 2023 and run for a total of six episodes. You can watch the trailer on YouTube below.
