Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ production company has made a sale for a comedy from co-producers Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
The untitled project from the Cougar Town co-executive producers marks the third sale for Rhimes and Beers’ 2014-15 development season. The comedy revolves around a group of friends who are brought together after an unexpected turn of events. Pietrosh and Goldstein will write and executive produce the entry, while the Shondaland pair of Rhimes and Beers will executive produce.
This marks the third sale and first comedy for the upcoming development season under Rhimes’ overall deal with ABC Studios. In addition, Rhimes and Beers are teaming with Made in Jersey creator Dana Calvo for a cop drama and K.J. Steinberg for Lawless, a drama about a maverick attorney inspired by the life of victims’ rights lawyer Wynona Ward, founder of Have Justice Will Travel.
Along with the upcoming tenth season of Grey’s Anatomy and third year of Scandal, Rhimes is going back to the big screen penning feature film War Correspondent at Sony’s Columbia Pictures. Grey’s and Scandal remain priorities for the company, in addition to recently concluded Private Practice.
