It looks like the election ratings boost may have already worn off for Saturday Night Live.
Deadline reports that last night’s Kristen Wiig/The XX episode of SNL had the series’ lowest ratings of its 42nd season. The episode, which featured the return of Alec Baldwin’s Trump and Wiig’s “surprise lady” character, pulled in a 4.7 live+same day rating and a 2.2 with the 18-49 market. Though those ratings are a decent decline from last week’s Chappelle-hosted episode and the lowest ratings this season, they are still better numbers than SNL has managed to maintain in recent years.
SNL‘s latest episode may have had the lowest ratings so far this season in live+same day, but those numbers may pick up now that President-Elect Donald Trump has been tweeting about the episode. The President-Elect’s words for SNL were by no means kind, but as the old saying goes “all press is good press”.
President-Elect Trump had a huge problem with Baldwin’s portrayal of him on SNL during the election and things have not changed. After last night’s episode Trump tweeted out that there was “nothing funny at all” about the SNL episode and Baldwin’s impression.
Along with musical guest The XX and the return of Wiig, last night’s SNL also featured the return of alums Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte. The show returns from Thanksgiving break on Saturday, December 3rd.
