Stephanie March (Law & Order: SVU, Harlan Coben’s Shelter) is returning to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as assistant district attorney Alexandra Cabot. According to Variety, the actress will reprise her longtime role in the ninth episode of season twenty-eight, marking her first appearance since 2018.
March has portrayed Cabot in more than 100 episodes throughout the show’s history. She originally joined the main cast during season two in 2000 and remained a regular until season five in 2003.
Variety notes that Cabot’s original departure followed a storyline in which she was forced to fake her death and enter witness protection. March later returned for guest appearances throughout seasons six, ten, eleven, thirteen, and nineteen.
Her upcoming appearance marks another familiar face returning to the long-running crime drama. March also portrayed Cabot in the 2006 legal drama, a short-lived SVU spinoff.
As mxdwn previously reported, Mariska Hargitay (ER, Lake Placid) shared behind-the-scenes photos teasing the possible return of Christopher Meloni (Happy!, Man of Steel) as Elliot Stabler. The photos showed Meloni on set with Hargitay, fueling speculation about another reunion between their characters after the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime earlier this year.
The previous report also highlighted the show’s approaching 600-episode milestone and Hargitay’s record-breaking run as Olivia Benson. While Meloni’s appearance was teased through the photos, March’s return as Cabot has now been officially confirmed.
Outside the franchise, March has appeared in films including The Invention of Lying, Who We Are Now and Origin. She also worked with filmmaker Ava DuVernay (Selma, Origin) on the television series Naomi.
Created by Dick Wolf, SVU remains the longest-running primetime drama in American television history. Its current cast includes Hargitay, Ice-T (New Jack City, Tank Girl), Peter Scanavino (The Blacklist, The Good Wife), and Kelli Giddish (Chase, All My Children).
Universal Television produces the series alongside Wolf Entertainment, with Wolf and Hargitay serving as executive producers. Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays at 9 p.m., although details surrounding Cabot’s upcoming storyline have not yet been revealed.
