The Power franchise is expanding its streaming reach through a new agreement between Lionsgate Television and Netflix. According to Deadline, Netflix has acquired the international streaming rights to the first four series in the Power universe: Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force.
The deal also gives Netflix domestic streaming rights to the original Power series in the United States. Despite the agreement, Starz will remain the primary U.S. home for the franchise. All seasons of the four series will continue streaming on the Starz app and its on-demand platforms, alongside future installments including Power: Origins and Power: Legacy, which are not included in the Netflix licensing deal.
The rollout will begin in early November, with release dates varying by international market based on Lionsgate’s existing licensing agreements. In the U.S., all six seasons of the original Power, which has streamed on Hulu since 2017, will move to Netflix in November.
The agreement covers all six seasons of Power, four seasons of Ghost, three seasons of Force, and five seasons of Raising Kanan. Canada is excluded from the deal because the franchise currently streams through Starz’s partnership with Bell Media. The licensing agreement is also non-exclusive, allowing Lionsgate Television to continue licensing the series to other platforms in participating territories.
The deal comes as Power Book III: Raising Kanan airs its fifth and final season on Starz, with the series finale scheduled for Aug. 7. Lionsgate Television is also producing Power: Origins, an upcoming prequel centered on fan-favorite characters Ghost and Tommy, while the recently greenlit Power: Legacy will reunite Michael Rainey Jr. (Power Book II: Ghost, Amateur) as Tariq St. Patrick and Joseph Sikora (Power, Ozark) as Tommy Egan.
According to Deadline, Netflix’s interest in the franchise follows the success of Nemesis, the streamer’s original drama from Power creator Courtney Kemp (Power, Good Girls). The series debuted in May, accumulated 32.6 million views during its first six weeks, and has already been renewed for a second season.
Kemp continues to executive produce the Power universe alongside Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Power, BMF) and Mark Canton (300, Den of Thieves), as Lionsgate Television continues expanding one of Starz’s most successful franchises.
