According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has renewed sitcom Leanne for a second season. Leanne Morgan (You’re Cordially Invited, Happiness Is) stars in the series, the pickup coming a month and a half after the well-reviewed multi-camera series, co-created by Morgan, Susan McMartin (Two and a Half Men, How We Roll) and Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage), debuted its 16-episode first season.
“We’re coming back for a second season!” Morgan said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. I am so grateful to all the writers, producers, Netflix, Warner Bros. TV, our amazing cast and especially for all the fans of the show. Y’all did this for us and we can’t wait to be back.”
Lorre added via The Hollywood Reporter, “Much thanks and gratitude to Netflix for this amazing opportunity. Congrats to Leanne and the entire cast and crew. This has been an incredible journey that began with a visit to Knoxville, Tennessee. Leanne Morgan is the whole package. A comedic genius, a warm, loving human being, and an absolute joy to work with.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the second season of the series will continue Morgan’s working relationship with the streamer. Her second Netflix stand-up special, Unspeakable Things, is set to premiere in November, following 2023’s I’m Every Woman. She also has another Netflix special on tap for 2027.
Morgan spoke with The Hollywood Reporter that she and Lorre initially conceived of Leanne as a single-camera show. “But Netflix said, ‘Would y’all please consider doing a multicam and bringing that format back?’ I thought, ‘Don’t put that burden on me.’ Then they said, ‘We’ll greenlight it right now if you do.’”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leanne spent two weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 rankings for English-language series after its July 31 premiere. During the first two weeks the series generated a total of 1.34 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States, according to Nielsen.
Leanne is available to stream on Netflix.
