X-Men ’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. X-Men The Animated Series was canceled on September 20th, 1997. 

The first episode of X-Men ‘97 was a great re-introduction to the world of X-Men: The Animated Series. The animation feels the same as the original show but is upgraded with smoother and more advanced graphics. This makes the show feel stuck in time but with its own spin to it, that makes it feel new and unique, appealing to both old generation viewers and also the new generation of viewers that will watch the show now. The colors are vibrant and energetic, which allows the show to stand out more and become more engaging for audiences. Most of the original cast returned and they all do a fantastic job with their respective characters. One of the voice actor changes is that now Professor X is voiced by Ross Marquad.

The two big standouts are Ray Chase as Cyclops and Cal Dodd as Wolverine. Both of the actors completely embody the characters that they play and always stand out in the scenes that they are a part of. Another actor who already stood out is Matthew Waterson as Magneto. Although he has limited screen time, his performance is powerful and intimidating, making him instantly stand out from the rest. The writing is good and makes the characters feel like their comic book counterparts, but it also doesn’t take any risks with the characters or their emotions.

Overall, X-Men ‘97 “To Me, My X-Men” is a good episode that will get audiences of all ages watching. It does a great job at re-introducing old viewers of the original show to it, while also catching up with new viewers in this already lived-in world of X-Men.
