It’s Día de los Muertos in Jericho. As Nevermore prepares its annual parade of remembrance, Wednesday revives from a coma, fighting spirits and demons of the past. She devises a new plan to thwart Tyler, whom she suspects will target her and Enid at the festivities that night.
Meanwhile, as the city searches for Tyler, a “John Doe,” and Uncle Fester, Judy Stonehurst seeks another escapee identified as Patient 1983. A private merc is assigned to find the patient, but runs into Tyler and Slurp instead, succumbing to both.
In a hilarious subplot, Pugsley and Gomez search for Slurp at Pioneer World, which has appropriated the Mexican culture to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Soon, the Haunted Hacienda turns deadly as Pusgley’s pet makes an appearance. Almost fully regenerated, Slurp asks Pusgley to set him free for a second chance at life. Gomez witnesses his escape, realizing Slurp is Isaac, a deceased classmate.
Back at Nevermore, Wednesday discovers Enid has reunited the Nightshades in an effort to battle Tyler. The two friends join forces and lure Tyler into a trap. Wednesday plans to become Tyler’s new master, but the dangerous scheme goes awry when another Hyde — a female — appears. Moritica reveals that the other Hyde is Tyler’s mother, Francois, Patient 1983. Given their history, Morticia allows Francois and Tyler to leave Jericho unharmed as long as she spares Wednesday’s life.
“Hyde and Woe Seek” is a solid entry displaying the stronger elements of the show. No one is truly gone in this universe, as Morticia and Gomez both come face-to-face with relics of their youth. And even Wednesday is haunted by a spirit guide in a great cameo from Gwendoline Christie. Guzman’s comedic chops help lift the Pugsley storyline, which hopefully ended with Slurp/Isaac being set free. Perhaps more time will be dedicated to Bianca’s storyline, given her mother is now a stowaway at Nevermore.
