Review: ‘The Pitt’ Season 2, Episode 8 “2:00 PM”

Previously on HBO Max’s The Pitt, Dana and Emma work on a sexual assault case, meanwhile, Dr. Jack Abbot comes in with a police officer, who was shot, as we learn Jack is also on the SWAT team while not working at PTMC. At the end of the hour, everyone learns that the other two hospitals have been cyberattacked and that theirs could be next, so they go dark.

The episode begins with Robby bringing out a whiteboard, letting the team know that they have to go “old school” with their patients and charting. Whitaker looks at his phone for the image he took of the board, but it’s blurry, which means they have to go off memory. Joy tells them that she has a photographic memory, saying she remembers all of the patients, nurses, rooms, etc.

A new patient comes in complaining about abdominal pain. Since they can’t do a CT scan, diagnosing will be more complicated. Robby leads McKay, Whitaker, and Ogilvie with the patient. Because of his weight, they can’t complete the procedure without the necessary tools, so they transfer him to another location, with Jack tagging along with him. It’s a sentimental scene where Ogilvie learns to care for the patient without judging their condition.

Samira, Dr. King, and Baran see a patient who presents with sudden blindness in one eye. Baran explains the treatment options and various complications, which include death. The patient and her wife decide to take the medication.

Jackson’s parents learn that he could be diagnosed with either schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. He will have to take medications and have therapy to learn and keep track of what he could have.

Frank and Santos get a drunk patient who bit her tongue. Santos is uncomfortable working with him, but they pull through together. Joy is also pulled to assist.

Meanwhile, Emma returns with Dana to complete Ilana’s examination. Once complete, Dana is finally able to assist as the charge nurse, allowing Princess to return to her normal routine.

After she meets with the deposition, Dr. Ellis pulls Dr. King to the side to reassure her that the case is frivolous. It eases her anxiety, for now.

Javadi and Ogilvie are accidentally pulled onto a case together, but they work surprisingly well as a duo. The patient’s rash turns out to be a rare infection he contracted by peeling limes in the sun.

McKay and Javadi discuss their cancer patient, Roxie, with Robby. McKay voices that Roxie’s pain medication dosage hasn’t been enough for her, so Robby advises them to increase it, even though it may be too much. With her condition and increasing the dosage, it could lead to Roxie’s death.

Overall, this was a decent episode. There wasn’t that much action, but it was interesting to see the learning process of having to go old school on their charting and procedures. Seeing Javadi and Ogilvie work together was interesting, two very smart individuals who are each other’s competitors. One thing that stood out was Joy’s photographic memory. Even though she’s been quiet throughout the season, it’s very obvious she’s smart and is in the right field. What will McKay and Javadi do with Roxie?
