Previously on Prime Video’s Sterling Point, Ellis and Annie admitted their feelings for each other. Ramona got drunk after being stood up by Oona. And Joe tells Annie her mother died in childbirth with Ramona.
The episode begins with Connor telling Annie that now isn’t a good time to tell Ramona the truth about how Goldie died. But Annie says she doesn’t want to keep it from her. When Connor leaves, Annie tells Ramona everything. Ramona goes to her bedroom to process the information.
Connor meets with Sully to plan his birthday party. Annie personally doesn’t like celebrating her birthday, so Connor gets to have his fun by himself During his shift, Ellis finds an envelope in his dad’s file cabinet. It’s a letter requesting Joe’s guardianship for Ramona.
Annie’s about to leave the house when Rory shows up and apologizes for how Lincoln acted at the movie event. Annie accepts the apology. Rory asks if he can take her out tonight, and she says yes.
Oona is helping Maple pack for camp. Maple asks about their mom coming for the talent show, and Oona hesitates. She informs her sister that she’s not sure if their mom will be coming to Sterling Point again. Their mom lives in India, met someone and isn’t sure if she’ll ever come back home. Maple storms out and goes over to Ramona’s to vent. The two of them throw plates at the wall to take out all of their anger. While they’re cleaning up the mess, Ramona gives Maple advice on how to cope with her emotions.
Later, Annie finds Ellis fixing a canoe. Once he’s finished, they take it for a test ride on the lake. Annie tells Ellis that Joe was at the hospital with Goldie when she died. He tells her about the guardianship. They now know that there’s a possibility that Joe might be Ramona’s father.
Later, Ellis goes into Joe’s truck and listens to the tape from Goldie. Goldie is talking about the baby kicking and that she’s excited for her and Joe to be a family.
At Connor’s birthday party, Ellis gifts Annie the portrait of them in a frame. As she’s saying thank you, Rory comes over to tell her they have to leave soon. Ellis leaves the party and writes a note for his dad, “Tell her,” putting the tape on top.
Ramona apologizes to Oona about how she acted towards her and Stacey at movie night. Ramona asks her not to push her away because they’re best friends and she doesn’t want to lose her. Oona tells her that she’s scared of ruining what they have, and Ramona kisses her.
When Rory and Annie go to the club, they catch up with two of their friends from school. After the friends leave, Rory and Annie kiss after having a random conversation.
One theme that stood out in this episode is change. This theme fits all of these characters so well throughout the entirety of this episode. One big change for Ramona is how she has learned the truth about her mother’s death, which changes everything she was told. This could also be said for Annie and Connor as well. Ramona also experiences change with her relationship with Oona. After their confession, it’s fair to say that their friendship and relationship have now shifted into a romance. A character that stood out in this episode, Maple, faces change as she learns to accept that her life is changing, and she’s scared of change, especially when it comes to her family.
Overall, this was a good episode. It had a lot of tense moments, along with happy and emotional ones. Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie does an incredible job as Ellis, showing more emotion and having to cope on his own with the fact that his life is now wrapped around Annie and Ramona’s situation. Now that we know who Ramona’s father is, it’s only more exciting to see what happens next.
