Simon is rushed to the hospital due to the bullet wound. Dee Dee and Ash’s bodies are wrapped and loaded into ambulances. Issac and Ruby infiltrate the Shining Haven, trying to free every single person and hunt down Casper. Issac goes down into a secluded underground area where he sees lights and shadows. It’s Casper. He threatens to take his own life before Issac can arrest him, but Issac outsmarts him and gets him in cuffs. After Ruby and Issac clear the cult, they find Elena’s body. They contact Lou and tell her that she is dead.
Issac visits Simon in the hospital. Simon claims he knows nothing about the cult, but in a flashback, Mother Adiona is speaking to him while he is recovering. She thanks him for not reporting her for Dee’s murder. She then tells him that the cult destroyed her and her son was in danger. She had used the DNA website to find him: Nathan. When she discovered the plan, she knew she had to protect him at all costs. She then tells Simon that she needs to go back to the cult, they will start over, start fresh.
Simon walks around the hospital and stops by Ingrid’s door where she is still in her coma. He sees a female figure. It takes him a minute to fully grasp what is happening. Then he realizes: It’s Paige! Simon bursts through the door, Paige is overjoyed to see her dad and gives him the biggest hug. Simon has many questions for her, and she is seemingly willing to explain herself. They sit down in the cafeteria and she explains to Simon how she was in rehab, and then she read an article about what happened to Ingrid which is why she rushed over to the hospital.
Paige then reveals that she saw Aaron’s dead body in his flat and ran. She had hid in the trailer where Simon found her jacket in the previous episodes. Simon remembers the conversation he had with Cornelius. Cornelius had taken the knife used for Aaron’s murder and he hid it in order to protect Paige as he believed that she was the one who killed Aaron. She then reveals to Simon that Aaron had broken into the rebab and drugged her in her sleep, which caused her to become addicted again. Ingrid was the one who had told Paige about the rehab and Simon feels it’s best to take her back so she can finish the program.
When Simon and Paige arrive at the rehab center, he can tell something is off. He tries to get Paige to open up to him. It takes her a bit, but she caves in. She explains she killed Aaron because she couldn’t take it anymore. Simon knows that she’s lying. There is no way Paige is capable of this. Simon knows she went to Ingrid, then to rehab. Paige explains how she found Aaron dead and ran. She then says that Ingrid was the one who killed Aaron. Paige begs Simon to not tell Ingrid that the two of them know and that Ingrid did what she did to protect Paige. Simon pulls her into a hug.
Later, Lou holds a funeral for Elena. Issac and Ruby are in attendance with Ruby wearing an engagement ring. Lou and Maria speak at her funeral as she is buried next to Joel.
Ingrid wakes up from her coma, and her family is overjoyed. Simon and Ingrid walk through a park. Simon doesn’t necessarily confront Ingrid about Aaron’s murder, but she knows that he knows, just by the look on his face. Ingrid tells him everything, from how she committed the murder to why she did what she did. The relationship between Aaron and their daughter was incredibly dangerous, and Ingrid felt that she needed to protect Paige. She went to the Mexican restaurant, — Jay was her alibi — and Luther saw her exit Aaron’s flat. Simon remembers what Rocco said in the previous episode, how Ingrid was the one who got shot and not him. It all lines up, but something still doesn’t sit right with Simon. He goes to Yvonne’s house and asks for a picture of Ingrid, then leaves.
Paige is then released from rehab and Simon and Ingrid bring her home. While sitting outside playing her guitar, Simon confronts her with the photo he got from Yvonne’s house. It’s a picture of Ingrid pregnant. The symbol of the Shining Haven is in the background. Paige tells Simon that Ingrid was part of that cult. She had gotten pregnant, had the baby and thought it was stillborn. She escaped the cult and went to rehab, the same rehab she took Paige to. Ingrid was Aaron’s mother, making him Paige’s half-sibling. This is why Paige was on those DNA websites. She and Aaron had talked for hours, and Aaron loved the idea of a sister. He got her into drugs. Simon knows he must keep this secret between the two of them, but he’ll be unsettled for the rest of his life.
This was an interesting end to a series to say the least. It felt like the episode was going to end multiple times, but more plot lines were being brought up in the later half of the episode. Ingrid being responsible for Aaron’s murder did make the most sense, even before it was revealed that she was his mother, due to the amount of abuse Paige faced. We also learn that was the reason Luther shot her in the very first episode. Simon’s character development becomes much stronger in this episode as he stops believing everything that he is hearing. This is specifically calling to him not believing Paige’s lies.
There were many plot holes left unanswered: We never find out what happened to Henry or Sebastian, Elena’s clients. We never know the full history of Ingrid and Jay, and why Jay was constantly obsessed with her throughout the run. Ex-roomates Katie and Jade are never heard of again. However, this was the perfect opportunity to bring Paige back in because Simon was in such a vulnerable state, willing to do anything for her, no matter how angry he was. The buildup for revealing Paige was also incredibly emotional. This series had good plot twists, and many thriller aspects to it which makes for a good entertaining series.
