Review: ‘Run Away’ Season 1, Episode 7 “Sliding Doors”

Dee Dee is seen with her boss as we are set three weeks in the past. Dee Dee and a woman are caught by her boss conspiring to spread the Shining Truth. Dee Dee is sent away while the woman runs out of the building where she meets a man named Nathan. She warns him that there are people out to kill him and that he is in danger. Nathan just leaves and doesn’t believe her.  

Dee and Ash begin digging a hole to dispose of Elena’s body. They find her phone and see that Simon has been constantly texting her. They recognize him as the man that beat up Aaron in the park. Aaron is on their list. While getting ready to go to their next location, Ash rereads the note that was given to him. Dee sees more texts from Simon and suggests that they kill him too, thinking Simon is as close to discovering the Shining Truth as Elena was. Ash visibly doesn’t want to go through with this.   

Lou and Simon start getting weird texts from “Elena.” It doesn’t sound like her. Lou starts to get worried about Elena and goes to Issac and Ruby to report her missing. She is very distraught. Ruby and Issac then go to one of her clients: Sebastian. It is the one with the missing son, Henry. Sebastian shows the two detectives a letter for Henry from a woman named Victoria, telling him to meet at a usual spot. Ruby recognizes the spot as a local coffee shop. There are two in the area, so her and Issac get to work and split up. They scope the areas paying attention closely to the women around them. Then, a waitress sits down and looks around, almost as if she is waiting for someone. Issac goes up to her and knows her name and of Henry. She is shocked.  

Dee and Ash sit down for a bite to eat. Dee can tell that Ash is upset. He pulls out the note from the woman in the cloak: Mother Adiona. Dee explains to Ash that she believes one of the men on the list is her son. Ash questions the entire mission. Dee finally gives in and tells him everything as she has never lied to Ash. “The One” is dying. The Visitor and The Volunteer will take over once he has passed. He’s worth millions. The One, Casper, had many relationships with many different women in the compound. He had many children, and after he had his divine sons, he felt that he didn’t need them anymore. All of the other sons were put up for adoption. That is their list. If those sons were to live and find out that Casper was their father, they could inherit everything and ruin the Shining Truth. It is then revealed that the two haven’t killed Aaron yet, leading the audience to believe that someone else had him killed.  

Back at the cafe, Ruby has joined Issac and Victoria. They tell her that Henry is missing. They also discover that Victoria is Henry’s mother. Victoria was part of The Beacon of The Shining Truth. Caspter got Victoria pregnant, and after she gave birth, she escaped the cult. The leaders told Victoria that her son was dead. Henry found Victoria on a genealogy website. They agreed to keep everything private and through letters. Victoria also told the leaders that she knew that Henry was still alive and regretted it. She gives them the location of the cult.

At the hospital, Simon tells Yvonne that he got the DNA results back and that all three kids are his. He is relieved, but he also tells Yvonne that Paige was raped at University. Yvonne has a look on her face, a look that is a dead giveaway to Simon. She knew. Simon is furious. How could she not tell him? She even told Ingrid. Yvonne feels terrible, but she reminds him that they need to focus on Paige. Simon then gets a text from Cornelius saying Rocco is ready for him, but he needs the money. They need to meet up at Aaron’s flat where he was murdered. Ash and Dee Dee beat them there.

Cornelius then tells Simon that they have to go down into the basement, the same basement where Ingrid was shot. Simon reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, Ash and Dee break into Aaron’s flat. Nobody is there. Ash then sees all of the blood on the mattress; someone got to Aaron before they did. Dee then recognizes  Simon at the bottom of the stairs. She tells Ash that they can just kill him right now and then run. The head down into the basement.

Rocco is very stubborn as he wants to see all of the money before giving out any information about Paige. Simon drops a backpack full of cash down on the ground. Rocco then tells him that he saw a sighting of Paige the day after Aaron’s murder. She got on a bus to a different town. Rocco tells Simon to think hard: he wasn’t the one who got shot, his wife did. Then, Dee and Ash are spotted hiding in a corner. A massive shooting session breaks out. Ash gets a bullet to the neck, bleeds out and dies in Dee Dee’s arms. Filled with rage, Dee chases Simon up the stairs outside. They reach the top of the building, where Dee shoots Simon just above the chest. Just when Dee is about to finish him off, Mother Adiona comes up from behind and throws her off of the building. She lands head first and dies. The episode ends with Ruby, Issac, and a whole police squad raiding the cult. 

This by far was the most action-packed episode. There were so many jaw dropping moments. We finally learn what mission Ash and Dee Dee are on, and it was hinted in previous episodes that they were the ones who killed Aaron, but this episode revealed that they didn’t. Their deaths were just as shocking as Elena’s. The series had set it up to where they were going to get away with everything. Three supporting characters were killed off in back-to-back episodes. It’s also important to keep in mind that the timeline of all of this is just three weeks. It also seems that getting one step closer to Paige is just as far away from where everyone started. The best moment of this episode was the gun fight; it was really nice to be on the edge wanting to know what was going to happen next.
