“Silver Alert” starts with Oliver emerging from the woods and asking a couple for help. Then, the show flashes back to when the trio has Mayor Tillman on the podcast, who tells them that he’s certain Bash Steed is their killer. Tillman tells them about Bash’s reach and a billionaire party being held in Connecticut. Oliver, Mabel, and Charles go to Bash’s manor, running into his ghoulish son and the other two billionaires, who all turn out to be playing board games. Oliver gets intimidated by Camila, Charles has a small argument with Bash, and Mabel rejects Jay’s flirtations. Since Loretta is worried about him, Oliver leaves in search of better internet, and it is revealed that she put out a Silver Alert for him. This connects to the teaser, as Oliver tells his story to the old couple, appearing to be a crazy person. Meanwhile, Charles and Mabel beat the billionaire trio at a celebrity guessing game by putting everyone in the context of Oliver in a great scene. Finally, Mabel discovers that the billionaires have the missing finger. They escape, being saved by Oliver, only to get back to the Arconia, where Camila reveals that the billionaires are trying to turn the Arconia into a casino, stealing the finger back at gunpoint.
This episode unfolds similarly to the trio’s first encounter with the billionaires, with an initial reveal inciting a meeting in which members of each trio pair up and prod for information. There were some unique elements to this episode, however, such as the board games and final reveal. Tying the billionaires more into the casino plotline was a great choice that helps focus the season. Additionally, the reveal was exciting, as it finally explored what happens when the billionaires lose their upper hand. The smaller reveal of the billionaires gambling their businesses and future plans was another interesting choice, as these people trivializing such vast quantities of money over childish board games worked very well within the show’s tone. The episode also featured some good comedic bits, such as Bash’s creepy son, Algie, and Camila’s fury over Oliver not appreciating her redesign.
While the billionaires are a fun addition, there is still room to grow with their personalities. Additionally, some of this episode’s best moments were when both trios fully interacted with each other, which is often deprioritized in favor of pairing up members of each group. The way in which each member of each trio will interact with their counterpart has become predictable, even if entertaining at times. While Jay’s flirtation was interesting and Camila’s insulting of Oliver was a highlight, it feels like the show can have more fun by adding more variety to these interactions. However, comparing the genuine friendships of the two trios with the Oliver-based guessing game worked very well, and hopefully, the show will expand on this dichotomy later in the season. Overall, while this was certainly a fun and entertaining episode with a great final twist, it did not fully live up to the potential of having these trios clash.
