Review: ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ Season 1, Episode 3 “Jinxed”

Episode 3 continues immediately where the previous episode left off, with Margo opening the door to Jinx. He tells her he’s there for her now, and they embrace. Susie comes out and excitedly squeals, recognizing Jinx. Margo then introduces Jinx to Bodhi for the first time and tells him that he’s welcome to stay the night at the apartment.

The following morning, Margo wakes up early to pump breast milk, while Jinx scrubs their bathroom with a toothbrush. She then gets ready for a job interview, bringing Bodhi along. The interview doesn’t go well, as the interviewer is unimpressed with both her situation and her resume. Afterward, Margo heads to meet Elizabeth at a law office. Also present in the room is Mark’s lawyer, who suggests setting up a trust fund for Bodhi that will grow to $300,000 by the time he turns 18. Although she knows she won’t be able to use the money for herself, Margo agrees to the arrangement.

Margo returns home to find that Jinx has spent the entire day cleaning, according to Susie. She finds him scrubbing the inside of the oven. Suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. Jinx answers it and is surprised to see Shyanne, who is equally stunned to find him there. She steps inside and shows Margo her maid of honor dress, which is when Jinx realizes that Shyanne is getting married. The atmosphere in the room quickly becomes tense. Shyanne leaves in a hurry, while Jinx stands there, trying to process what just happened.

While shopping for Bodhi, Margo realizes how quickly the expenses are piling up. When she gets back home, she finds Susie watching wrestling on TV. Jinx recognizes one of the wrestlers—Arabella—and mentions that she’s also on OnlyFans, claiming she makes more in a month there than she does in a year of wrestling. He abruptly turns off the TV and then suggests moving in with Margo and Susie. He admits he can’t offer much financially but promises to help by cooking and cleaning. Margo is hesitant at first, insisting that he stay sober. She asks about his past with substance abuse, and he explains that it began with painkillers from his spinal surgeries before escalating to heroin. He makes it clear he doesn’t want to fall back into that life. The moment turns emotional, and as they share a hug, Margo agrees to let him move in.

Meanwhile, Shyanne rehearses with the church choir, singing Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” in preparation for the wedding, but her performance is off-key and she stumbles over the lyrics. Later, at dinner, she suggests to Kenny that they switch to a Beatles song instead.

At night, after Margo gets done breastfeeding Bodhi, she studies her breasts in the mirror. Breastmilk squirts out onto the mirror when she squeezes one. She murmurs to herself, “People would pay to see that,” and suddenly an idea clicks. She logs onto OnlyFans and creates an account. Searching for a username, she glances around the room until she notices the poem Mark wrote for her on her desk, inspiring her to choose “HungryGhost.” As she scrolls through the feed, she spots a creator charging subscribers $50 just to insult their penises.

The next morning, Margo tells Susie about her idea, suggesting that her writing skills could be used to offer in-depth appendage analyses for subscribers. She then rushes off to a dress fitting with Shyanne, where she mentions that Jinx will be moving in. Shyanne reacts harshly, insisting he’ll be a bad influence on Bodhi, and the conversation quickly turns into an argument. She accuses Margo of acting impulsively without thinking things through, using her pregnancy as an example.

Back at home, Becca calls Margo and suggests she consider placing Bodhi in foster care so she can focus on pursuing writing at a university. Shocked and furious, Margo throws her phone into the toilet. As Jinx helps her dry it off, there’s a knock at the door. Margo opens it to find Shyanne, who has come to apologize. She then turns to Jinx and warns that moving in is a mistake, reminding him how difficult it was for her to raise Margo alone after he left. She tells Margo she’s barely hanging on by a thread and insists Jinx won’t help. Margo defends him and tells Shyanne that she’s said enough. With nothing left to say, Shyanne leaves, defeated.

The episode wraps up with Margo setting up her official OnlyFans profile. In her bio, she offers subscribers the chance to tip $20 if they want to know which Pokémon their penis most closely resembles. She then bathes Bodhi, emotionally telling him not to listen to what others say and assuring him they are on the precipice of greatness. Just as she says that, a notification chimes on her phone—she’s received her first OnlyFans subscriber, along with a $20 tip. Excited, she turns to Bodhi and exclaims, “I have a fan!”

Episode 3 of Margo’s Got Money Troubles brings Margo back with her father, Jinx, offering a deeper, more nuanced perspective on her character while also incorporating a new and interesting narrative element into play: OnlyFans. From the start, it’s clear Margo holds a soft spot for Jinx despite him being an absent father. While her relationship with Shyanne is filled with the usual mother-daughter conflict, she shows an unexpected openness and compassion toward Jinx, suggesting to the audience that perhaps what Margo needed all along was simply her own father. Elle Fanning continues to deliver a compelling performance as Margo, capturing both the strain and tenderness of early motherhood. There’s a moment near the end of the episode when Margo gently tells Bodhi that he didn’t ruin her life—instead, he made it. It’s a quietly vulnerable confession that highlights her deep love for her son, despite the challenges of her situation. With OnlyFans now in the mix, audiences can anticipate how Margo will navigate this unexpected new career pivot of sorts.
