This episode starts with Leela caring for Nibbler. While he is playing with a toy, he gets a message from his people, saying he has a new important assignment that will be his last. The crew then go to see a Robuki Theatre Company Apollo 13 reenactment, starring Calculon.
After the show, Zoidberg thanks Leela for buying the tickets, but Nibbler says it was him. Nibbler reveals he periodically blanks their minds so they forget he can talk. He then tells them about how he is being reassigned to another universe. The Nibblonian Neighborhood Watch detected a world that will collapse, and he is being tasked with observing it. After an emotional goodbye, he tries to blank everyone’s memory, but Bender reflects it with his shiny metal ass, causing him to mind blank himself. After he runs off, they go and chase him, but he gets away, so they try and put signs up for help.
Nibbler then goes on an adventure on his own. He finds Planet Express but is then captured by Animal Control. Back at Planet Express, Farnsworth realizes that he stuck an ID chip in Nibbler’s neck, but it’s unnecessary, since the Animal Control guy left a message on the answering machine, saying he found Nibbler. Fry, Bender, and Leela go to pick him up, but learn he’s already been adopted by a little girl named Pramela and her single father. They then have a competition to see who he comes to, and he ends up going to Bender. Leela sadly lets Nibbler go to the girl, but she starts having an allergic reaction to him.
In the hospital, the doctor reveals that if she touches Nibbler again, she’ll die of anaphylactic shock. Bender then gives her his Robo-Puppy, and they head off with Nibbler. Back at Planet Express, Amy has the idea that maybe Nibbler’s people could help if they knew where they were. Fry then says he knows the location is Planet Eternium, and that Nibbler flew him there in his spaceship. Leela, Bender, Fry, and Nibbler get in the ship, and head over.
When they get there, they tell the council that Nibbler’s mind has been blanked, and ask if they can help. They say they can’t because no Nibblonian has ever done anything that dumb before, so they don’t know what to do. The only hope is to go on a perilous journey to the ice prison to speak with Brainormous. She tells them she could restore his mind through a brain meld, if she is granted freedom. She is granted permission, so she commences the brain melding, restoring his memories.
Nibbler then gets ready to head off and blank everyone’s memories, but they say a tearful goodbye instead (everyone except Bender). With that, the three head back home, while Nibbler heads off to observe the dying universe. While grieving at Planet Express, Nibbler’s coffin ship flies through the window, where he pops out alive and well. Nibbler explains that Brainourmous stopped him and saved him since he is the one Nibblonian who conversed with her and made imprisonment bearable. Nibbler then blanks everyone’s minds, including us the viewer.
This episode was good but it for some reason didn’t feel as great as some of the other ones. It was nice seeing Nibbler again, and the episode was still a good one, but it just didn’t feel like it was the greatest. It still had some little moments, and it was a little sad that Nibbler could have vanished. Overall, the episode was still a good watch, just not incredible.
