Episode 5 begins with a news report about Coco Charm’s new tour. This gives Kif the idea to get tickets for Amy’s birthday, since she is Amy’s favorite. Later, while Zapp and Kif wait for a delivery truck to enter the ship, Kif gets a notification that the tickets are on sale. After the crazy steps to get it, Kif learns that he can’t afford the tickets anyway.
While giving Newt a bath, Kif takes some money from Amy’s purse to buy the tickets for her. At the party, the Professor shows his disdain for Coco Charm and tries to use science to explain why music is such a powerful tool. After his explanation, Fry tells Amy he wishes he could get Leela tickets, so she gives Fry the VIP tickets she bought for Kif to surprise Leela.
At the Show, Leela reveals that she is appreciative, but that she doesn’t like Coco Charm, so she listens to her audiobook instead. After DJ TimeFilla’s set, Coco begins her songs. After her set is finished, she begins her encore, using a specially programmed riff and song to control the minds of her fans. Everyone except Leela, who can’t hear because of the headphones, so she gets herself and Fry out of the stadium, which flies off.
While Zapp is sent to deal with the threat, Leela makes it back to Planet Express, and tells the crew about Coco and what she said about reprogramming the brain with music. This makes Farnsworth realize they have to create a counter melody in order to reverse the effects of the song. They scan the cube and create a plan to fly into the t-shirt vendor shaft, and use the Bluetooth receiver to play the melody, though they have to get within 8 ft because of Bluetooth’s poor connection.
While flying to the shaft, Fry begins dancing like the other controlled fans and knocks the ship off course, causing the Bluetooth waves to shoot into Zapp’s ship, making him surrender. Even though the ship is soundproof, the music is so catchy it’s stuck in Fry’s head. After performing brain surgery to remove his affected brain cells, Coco destroys the war weapons, when suddenly, the Omicronians start invading.
Lrrr comes out and explains that he is now the ruler. Lrrr then notices Coco and tells her he doesn’t wanna cause drama, so peace ends up being achieved. The armies then unite to fight the enemy they all hate, Ticketmistress. After storming the building and finding nothing but a computer and servers, Mom suddenly appears and explains that this is her way of giving back to the world. President Nixon then appears and says that Mom has teamed up with the Department of Health and Human and Nonhuman Services. Every single cent goes to support schools, hospitals, and more. This explanation doesn’t work, so everyone destroys the place anyways. Back at Planet Express, Kif tells Amy about the money, but she forgives him, and says the seats he bought were better.
This episode was pretty good. It had some funny parts in it, and it was interesting seeing Mom and Lrrr again, even if it was brief. It might have had some more funny bits in it than the last episode, though it still probably isn’t the best so far. Overall though, it wasn’t a bad episode.
