Review: ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, Episode 5 “This Little Piggy”

Previously on HBO Max’s Euphoria, Rue makes a deal with the DEA to get information on Alamo and Laurie in order not to serve time in jail. Cassie moves out of the house with Nate to work with Maddy on her career. Maddy introduces her to the biggest influencer, Brandon Fontaine.

The episode begins with Maddy helping Cassie with her content. She’s hit 50,000 subscribers and books gigs on podcasts. Maddy learns that Cassie sent Nate $35,000 and gets upset, telling her to focus on herself. While she’s looking at her content, there’s a scene where Cassie basically becomes King Kong, becoming too big for the real world. It’s a metaphor for how huge an influencer she’s becoming.

Next, we see Alamo ranting about Laurie and the robbery. During his anger, he almost kills one of his guys over his pants being too short, insinuating that he’s a “small guy.”

Brandon tries to convince Cassie to move in with him and drop her business with Maddy. He tells her that she can do things more independently. She tells Nate about the offer. He thinks it’s a good business opportunity, saying that she could even fake a relationship with Brandon to make more money. He says he trusts her and that she can get it done for both of them. Cassie is mainly hesitant because she cares about Maddy and doesn’t want to leave her.

Bishop tells Rue that something about her gives him the “heebie jeebies,” saying that everything’s been much weirder since she’s come into their lives. She then has a conversation with Alamo. Rue tells him that his money is probably hiding in Laurie’s basement. Later, she meets with the DEA agents, and they have her call Laurie so they can wiretap her phone. Laurie hangs up, so she tries calling Wayne.

Cassie confronts Maddy about her just being an assistant and ends up signing to become a member of Brandon’s influencer house, ‘Drill House. While they have their conversation, Cassie freaks out when Maddy pretends to make a phone call to cancel an important event for Cassie. So, she tells Maddy that it’s a misunderstanding. Maddy makes her sign a contract, and Cassie does so, without reading the fine print.

Maddy persuades Lexi to get Cassie an audition with the production company for the series LA Nights. During the audition, Cassie does a monologue from Shakespeare. She ends up getting the part.

Jules and Rue are hanging out at her penthouse. Jules doesn’t think that Rue has been in a relationship with anyone since her. Rue tells Jules about Angel. The conversation leads to them having passionate sex. Later, Jules’ sugar daddy finds Rue’s underwear and becomes upset. He warns her he has a family and can’t risk any STI scares.

Nate’s at home celebrating Cassie’s big win when  Naz’s right hand comes bursting in. Nate tries to tell him that he just got more money, but the man hurts him even more.

Magick finds drugs in her locker and goes to Alamo, telling him that Rue is trying to frame her. Alamo and Bishop put together that Rue lied about not recognizing the voices from the robbery. While she’s having dinner with Maddy, she notices Bishop standing outside staring at her. Alamo comes over, taking a seat with them. Alamo has Bishop and G take Rue home, while he stays back with Maddy. Maddy tells him about her career goals, wanting to manage people who want to make money.

In the car, Rue has to give Bishop her phone. They take her to a field and tell her to dig a hole. She digs the hole deep enough to stand in. Once she’s finished, they bury her up to her neck. Meanwhile, Alamo has Maddy drive them to the club so she can meet his dancers. Maddy chooses Magick and Kitty to manage.

In the morning, Bishop and the guys come back to Rue, who’s still buried. Alamo rides in fast on a horse with a polo mallet. Rue screams for her life as he takes a swing at her head.

Overall, this episode was a little uncomfortable but nerve-wracking. The first few minutes of the episode with Cassie were hard to watch. The whole OnlyFans content and King Kong dialect was a bit weird. But Sydney Sweeney did a great job as Cassie in this episode. It’s hard to tell what will happen to Rue, not knowing if she’ll get killed by Alamo or if he’ll let his guard down with her. The last scene left us off with a cliffhanger, so we’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out what happens.
