The secret government agency begins to gather demon hunters to find Dante and his amulet. One of these characters is none other than Lady from the Devil May Cry franchise. Lady, whose real name is Mary, is a human demon hunter who first appears in Devil May Cry 3. She is well known for her short black hair and heavy weaponry, and as a skilled fighter despite having no demonic powers. Lady quickly showcased her talents by tearing down a hidden demon in front of the Vice president during an official meeting, revealing her knowledge of demons.

Anders is introduced to Lady’s team and joins them after being the lone survivor from the battle with the White Rabbit. Despite seeming to be an airhead, the team respects his survival and dedication. Enzo Ferino, a former work partner to Dante, is then brought into the room, as he is the key to finding Dante.

Enzo is taken to Dante’s apartment to lure him out. As he called out for Dante, Enzo is quickly met with a gun. Dante puts his gun to Enzo’s head and confronts him, explaining that his last gig ended up being a set-up, where a demon tried to steal his necklace. As he stammers, Lady’s team surrounds Dante’s apartment.
Dante knows that this is another set-up from Enzo, and he explains that he cannot give up his necklace. The red jeweled amulet was given to him by his mother and is the only thing he has from her. Dante cocks his gun, ready for battle, despite Enzo’s warning that the federal government hired these mercenaries, and it’s serious business.
Dante takes on this team of mercenaries with ease, displaying Devil May Cry’s classic, flashy action. More federal agents arrive at Dante’s apartment, though he quickly dodges any bullet, except a shotgun. Dante is shot in the abdomen, but quickly heals with what appears to be super-human like powers.
Lady and her team watch in the distance, disturbed and confused by Dante’s healing powers. Not only does Dante have powers, but he holds the key to hell, which further confuses the team. Lady explains this key was given by Sparda, the demon who protected Earth from the demon realm. Sparda saved Earth but has mysteriously disappeared since.

Lady decides to join the fight once Dante takes out the mercenaries. She bursts through Dante’s apartment window, dodging each of Dante’s shots. She shoots a grappling hook at him, scraping his neck. Dante finds the close call amusing but finds that this hook ripped off his amulet. She throws tear gas as she grabs the amulet, giving herself a smooth escape.

Dante refuses to let the amulet go. He bursts through the smoke and chases after her, the two now set on a high-stakes collision course. Lady shoots him with an anti-demon bullet, explaining that the bullet will reveal his true form. As she rips off his shirt, she’s only met with his abs and proud face.

Lady explains that while he’s not a demon, he has demon blood, which makes him a hybrid. Dante refuses to believe this and underestimates Lady’s skills as a demon hunter. She is able to escape Dante with the amulet and leads him into a trap that detains him.

Episode 2 of Netflix’s Devil May Cry blends stylish action and franchise callbacks into a fast-paced, entertaining chapter. The return of Lady and her confrontation with Dante is the standout moment, while the episode’s humor balances well with the lore drops. While her return was much anticipated, audiences are concerned that Lady is being written too differently from her original DMC3 persona. This Netflix version may be oversimplifying her into a snarky, edgy character, stripping away her emotional depth. Even so, this episode ends strong with a surprising moment of vulnerability for Dante, as Lady explains his demon-hybrid heritage. With Lady successfully trapping Dante, it flips the power dynamic and leaves us with a compelling hook for what’s next.
