Previously on FX’s American Horror Story: 13, Ben learns that Constance and Mr. Nas’ home’s artifacts are all tied to the number 13, which he has a fear of. We are reintroduced to Constance’s children, Adelaide, Tate, Rubber Man, and Winter, as they all make their return to their mother.
The episode begins with Constance, Tate, Rubber Man, and Adelaide meeting Elizabeth, the guest Winter brought with her. Elizabeth takes off her mask, showing her Glasgow smile. During dinner, Elizabeth is the only one to eat. Constance says that Elizabeth was slashed on the 13th of January, making the number even more significant.
During the story of how Elizabeth ended up in New York, Ben shows up for his night shift. Constance pulls him to the kitchen and tells him that she told him to not come tonight, but he tells her he doesn’t remember her mentioning that. She puts something in his drink while he’s not looking before she hands it over to him. Ben tells her no, but takes the cup anyway before drinking it. The drug quickly takes over him, and he passes out. Rubber Man carries him to his bed, and they let him sleep.
Constance and Rubber Man have a heartfelt moment as she tells him that he must do his job at the speakeasy. She embraces him before grabbing his face and telling him that he was always her favorite child.
Constance says goodnight to her children before they take Elizabeth to the speakeasy in the basement of the hotel. As they make it inside the speakeasy, a woman comes up to them and says, “This is the portal to hell.” Rubber Man puts a hood over Elizabeth’s head.
Overall, this was a great episode. It seems as though Constance has a plan of having people come back to life— giving them back their vessels. A theme that is shown in this episode is reunion. Constance has reunited with her children, along with Winter. Elizabeth has reunited with her body, being brought back to life. Constance celebrates this reunion between the family over dinner. Evan Peters does an incredible job in this episode as both Tate Langdon and Rubber Man. He’s able to portray both characters with completely different personalities. With Constance and Rubber Man being mysterious about the speakeasy, what will happen to Elizabeth? And what will Rubber Man have to do?
