With the return of Yellowstone, Paramount+ decided to ruffle some feathers of Dutton fans by dropping a teaser for the Yellowstone prequel titled 1923, which will star Helen Mirren (The Queen, Hitchcock) and Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Air Force One). This trailer was released during the premiere of the fifth season of Yellowstone, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The teaser trailer contains a voiceover that says, “Violence has always haunted this family. It followed us from the Scottish Highlands to the slums of Dublin, and it followed us here. Where it doesn’t follow, we hunt it down. We seek it,” according to ABC News.
The origin story 1923 from Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Wind River), the showrunner, shadows a new generation of Duttons–the patriarch Jacob, played by Ford, and the matriarch Cara, played by Mirren, and uncovers the 20th century when historic drought, pandemics, the end of the Prohibition era and the Great Depression that all plague the Mountain West, and the Duttons who call it their home. Jacob is the brother of James Dutton, Tim McGraw’s (The Blind Side, Friday Night Lights) character in 1883.
Instagram accounts Paramountplus and 1923official posted a new teaser trailer on their pages for 1923 with the caption reading, “It’s the dawn of a new era,” according to ABC News.
The prequel also stars Darren Mann (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Giant Little Ones), Jerome Flynn (Black Mirror, Game of Thrones), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas, The Undertaker’s Wife), Marley Shelton (Death Proof, Planet Terror), Aminah Nieves (V/H/S/99, Dogwood), James Badge Dale (The Departed, World War Z), and Brian Geraghty (The Guardian, The Hurt Locker).
This prequel follows up on the prosperity of the foregoing Yellowstone prequel, titled 1883, which narrated the Duttons as they voyaged from Texas to what would become the family place of residence in Montana.
1923 will have a special first-episode debut on Sunday, December 18, 2022, after an episode of Yellowstone on Paramount before transitioning to Paramount+ on New Year’s Day, according to Deadline.
