‘Yellowjackets’ Drops New Promo With MTV News Throwback

Yellowjackets is just a few weeks away from the premiere of its fourth and final season, and the show has decided to tease its return with a brand-new promotional video that pays homage to MTV News, MTV’s former journalistic television show. The video was posted on the official Yellowjackets Instagram.

The video features a de-aged Serena Altschul (former journalist for MTV News) announcing the return of the Yellowjackets soccer team from their 19-month stay in the wilderness. She also announces that Alanis Morissette (who happens to sing the Yellowjackets theme song “No Return”) performed a song for the team on TRL. The video is full of throwback ’90s references, fitting for the series’ ’90s setting.

Last season on Yellowjackets, the team finally came close to rescue as Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) managed to take a satellite phone up into the mountains, where she called for help. Opposing Natalie was Shauna (Sophie Nélisse), who wished to stay in the wilderness and continue the group’s cult-like activities. As most of the group decided that they wanted to be rescued, Natalie took the initiative to defy Shauna. The show ended on cliffhanger with someone answering Natalie’s desperate call for help.

Little is known about Yellowjacket‘s final season, which is set to premiere on November 20 on Paramount+. A trailer has yet to materialize, while Showtime has been slowly releasing promo images and (now) this new promotional video. This season will bring new faces to the cast, as the younger Yellowjackets are rescued from the wilderness and return to civilization. But if little is known about the ’90s timeline, even less is known about the modern-day timeline. Previously in the modern day, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) became increasingly unhinged as Melissa (Hillary Swank) resurfaced after years of having faked her death. Meanwhile, Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Misty (Christina Ricci) decided to team up to bring down Shauna.
