Writer/director and CEO of the newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU for short) James Gunn (Guardians of The Galaxy, Slither) recently conducted an interview with Entertainment Weekly during which he provided updates on number of previously announced projects, including “Paradise Lost,” a television prequel series that focuses on Wonder Woman’s all-female homeland of Themyscira, via Comicbook. Since its announcement in January 2023, updates for the series have been few and far between, leading to speculation that the show — perhaps fittingly — is stuck in development hell.

Paradise Lost is moving along,” Gunn told Entertainment Weekly when questioned. “It’s slow-moving, but it’s moving. And, yeah, I really love that project a lot.”

According to a report from Comicbook, Paradise Lost will take place before Diana’s birth, allowing for unique vision of Themyscira that will take cues from Game of Thrones and other political thrillers. It might also draw influence from Paradise Island Lost, a 2001 Wonder Woman comic that envisions a civil war between the Amazons, though this connection has not been explicitly confirmed.

When Entertainment Weekly asked Gunn if Paradise Lost would connect to his plans for the DCU’s upcoming Wonder Woman movie, Gunn remarked, “Yes. Well, yes and no. Wonder Woman‘s a separate thing. We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman‘s being written right now. So it’s different. I mean, not different. They’re connected. She’s from f—ing Themyscira, so…”

This comes scarcely more than a week after Gunn first confirmed a Wonder Woman movie was in the works to Entertainment Weekly as part of an interview for the upcoming Superman. He also gave an update on the hotly anticipated follow-up to Matt Reeves’ (Cloverfield, Let Me In) 2022 film The Batman, stating, “Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it. So we can’t wait to read the scripts, but we haven’t read it yet, if that’s your question.”

Gunn’s confirmation that Paradise Lost is still coming might soften the recent blow Wonder Woman fans endured when Warner Bros. Games announced they had cancelled a triple-A video game for the character earlier this year. No release date for either Paradise Lost or Wonder Woman has been given, though, meaning fans will have to wonder about these projects for a little longer.
