The release date of the newest HBO series Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty is getting close. A trailer for this upcoming show is now available, via the HBO site. HBO will also promote this series this Sunday amid the Super Bowl. The audience will get to watch it on Sunday, March 6.
Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty aims to take the audience back to the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers the 1980s. The series will be based on the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s by Jeff Pearlman (Sweetness: The Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton).
Winning Time tells the story of how the 1980s Lakers rose to prominence with their budding star Magic Johnson at the center of it all. The Lakers has millions of fans all over the world. For the younger ones who did not witness the Laker’s empire in the 80s, the show will be an interesting introduction. Those with the experience also get to revisit the glorious moments that they just cannot forget.
The trailer starts with a voiceover saying “I don’t care who you are. If you’re a human being, with two eyes and a heart, this game, this industry, makes you feel good!” A timeline of the story is presented. It all begins in 1979. Then, we are introduced to some familiar names: Jerry Buss, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and more. Winning Time will provide us with not only the scenes that the team is winning but also the drama along the way. The two-minute teaser end with the line we are familiar with: it’s showtime.
Joining the ensemble cast are John C. Reilly (Days of Thunder), Quincy Isaiah (Corporate Office), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), Adrien Brody (The Pianist), Gaby Hoffmann (Uncle Buck), and more. Reilly, Isaiah, and Clarke will play Jerry Buss, Magic Johnson, and Jerry West respectively.
Adam McKay serves as the executive producer of Winning Time. McKay’s recent apocalyptic-comedy film Don’t Look Up receives a best picture nomination at the 94th Academy Award. McKay himself retweeted the trailer multiple times on his Twitter account, showing his enthusiasm for the upcoming project.
There will be ten episodes for this series. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
