According to Deadline, actor William H. Macy (Shameless,Frontier Crucible) confirmed the title for his upcoming Hulu NFL drama series. Created and executive produced by Dan Fogelman (Paradise, This Is Us), Macy revealed the show’s title and few more details on the red carpet at Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards.
“It’s about a football team, nominally the Cleveland Browns. It’s called The Land because that’s what people from Cleveland call it. I play the owner of the team,” Macy said via Deadline. “They’re brilliant scripts. They’re Shakespearean. It’s about football, but, oh, my lord, the plots are so profound, and I’m having the time of my life.”
Macy commented to Deadline that The Land will be set in the NFL world with generational family component. The character Danny, the head coach played by actor Chris Meloni (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Harley Quinn), stars along with Sam Corbett (Headhunters, Vikings: Valhalla) and Tanner Zagarino (The Vending Machine, Valley Mentality!). Chance Crawford (The Boys, Gossip Girl) plays the teams manager, and Mandy Moore (The Boar’s Nest: Sue Brewer and the Birth of Outlaw Country Music, Once Upon a Studio) and Chloe Bennet (Hello Out There, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie) play Macy’s daughters.
Deadline mentioned that Macy stated, “The NFL is completely behind our show, so we’ve got complete access. I’m optimistic it’s going to be something. And what if Cleveland starts winning? Because I think our team is going to do better.”
According to Deadline, Skydance Sports and 20th Television are behind the series. The executive producers are Fogelman, Hess Rosenthal (Paridise, Pitch), and Kevin Falls (This Is Us, The West Wing), along with David Ellison (Ray Gunn, Matchbox), Jesse Sisgold (Rise of The 49ers, aka Charlie Sheen) and Hason T. Reed (Deja Vu, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes).
