Chicago P.D.’s new season is approaching NBC this month, so here is a whole new guide on what to expect from these episodes, via TVLine.
The famous series follows the story of the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit, led by Sgt. Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe (Chicago Justice, Safelight). During each episode, the unit puts behind bars the most heinous criminals for crimes including drug trafficking, high-profile murders, and so much more.
The investigation squad includes an elite crew of officers and detectives: first of all, there is Det. Hailey Upton, played by Trace Spiridakos (FBI, Revolution, Rags), as a tough detective who tries to fight with her emotions; Officer Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger (Footloose, The Princess Diaries), who’s a clever and intelligent officer that acts with his heart first rather than his mind; Officer Kim Burgess, played by Marine Squerciati (Chicago Justice, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med), a phenomenal patrol officer whose intellect and research help the team resolve the case; Officer Kevin Atwater, played by LaRoyce Hawkins (Chicago Justice, The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain), is a charming cop that has infinite knowledge of the streets to help the investigations; and to conclude, there is the newest recruit of the team, Officer Dante Torres, played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Before the Dawn, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window), who has arrived on Season 10 from patrol but still was able to distinguish himself as a big personality to the team.
But what did Season 10 leave the elite squad on? It showed the heated fight between the team and white supremacist Richard Beck, who planned to explode the whole city of Chicago down to make a statement. Ruzek was able to blow his cover to prevent Samantha (Richard’s daughter) from leaving town with her son Cal. Voight was able to secure an immunity deal for Samantha, for her to help with the investigation. But as Samantha was about to leave, Cal shot Ruzek. The bleeding cop was barely able to call Burgess in with backup and then transported to Chicago Med right after. To conclude, the rest of the team was able to catch up with Beck, who took Cal hostage as a last chance to flee from the cops. The fight between the team and Beck culminated with Atwater killing Beck, as Cal stared down at Atwater, signaling the endless hate between them was not ending any time soon.
One thing that made viewers wonder is the possibility of the possible death of Ruzek after being rushed to Chicago Med at the end of the one-hour-long season finale. However, photos from an unaired scene, via Screenrant, point to a positive outcome for Ruzek’s hospital recovery, showing Burgess sitting next to him.
The entire cast will be returning in this next season, including for Spiridakos who announced in October, via TVLine, that she is leaving the show after this upcoming season. There is no exact date for her departure as of today, or when she will be written off from the show. Spiridakos was a recurring character at the beginning of Season Four but joined the team officially as a regular character in Season Five. Season 10 left her Upton’s story as her dealing with the separation from her husband.
The storyline for Season 11 seems to be teased by Showrunner Gwen Sigan (Law & Order, Chicago Fire, Closing Time) as a season filled with “new possibilities in policing, in relationships, at home in their personal lives,” she stated, via TVLine. “Our characters are each on the precipice of something new, whether they know it or not.”
The show begins on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 10/9c on NBC, part of the ‘Chicago Wednesday’ network initiative which will air one episode of each show (Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Chicago Fire) one after the other. The series will have 13 episodes this season, since the SAG-AFTRA Strike gave less possibilities to film the usual amount of 22 episodes, which was the total in Season 10. Other shows on NBC have had the same fate, like for example Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, all three Law & Order series, and the FBI franchise on CBS.
Chicago P.D. airs on NBC and the episodes can be streamed the next day on Peacock, which currently has available Seasons One through 10 for its users.
