Westeros Returns: Belfast Prepares For New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel

A new spinoff of the Game of Thrones franchise has been announced, along with the second season of the acclaimed series, House of the Dragons, which is set to release on July 19th. According to Comicbook, ever since the 2019 release of the series, numerous spinoffs have been in the works, with some being scrapped. The new series is dubbed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on George R.R. Martin’s(The Winds of WinterTales of Dunk and Egg novella. The series will star Peter Claffey (Harry Wild) as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell (Christmas on Mistletoe Farm) as Egg.

AAccording to Comicbook, HBO released an official description of the spin-off that reads, “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros. A young, naive but courageous night, Ser Duncan the Tall and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age where the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbably and incomparable friends.”

According to BBC via Comicbook, the series will be filmed in Belfast. Filming with Titanic Studios and production are expected to start in July. While details about specific filming locations are scarce, the return to Northern Ireland suggests viewers can expect stunning natural landscapes reminiscent of those seen in Game of Thrones.

According to Robert Dowling, owner of Game of Thrones Tours via Comicbook, “We had learned about it a few months ago, it’s been quite secretive, all of our guides were extras in the original and they knew a fantasy project would take place after How To Train Your Dragon.”

“Fans were disappointed that Belfast did not get House of the Dragon, but this announcement confirms that the city is the home of the Thrones franchise,” he added.

With filming about to begin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is poised to continue the Game of Thrones legacy. The prequel series promises a fresh new story in a familiar setting, and following a similar format to its predecessors. It will surely captivate the viewers and transport them back to the realm filled with an endless struggle for power.
